BL Silver Coat RT is a silver chrome paint treatment system based on a completely new process that makes it possible to mirror the surface of the base material with nano-sized silver particles in a short time. Using the most advanced nanotechnology we have independently developed, we have succeeded in condensing silver nanoparticles at low temperatures. Compared to conventional silver films made by silver mirror reaction, this new system forms a special silver film with high luminosity and excellent metallic design, and with the same stability as a normal urethane paint film.

BL Silver Coat RT can be applied with ordinary coating equipment: compressor and spray gun. For example, there is no need for special equipment (such as a 2-head gun), which is required for silver mirror coating. The work process is also greatly simplified, making this a very cost-effective silver chrome coating treatment system. [Patented ]

Low-temperature processing: The upper baking temperature is set at 80°C. Prototypes / Modeling / Resin base materials and plastic base materials in general, which cannot be processed at high temperatures, can now be treated with the final metallic surface treatment.

Realization of chrome-like surface treatment by coating
BL Silver Coat RT is a special paint that uses state-of-the-art nanotechnology to form silver itself into nanoparticles (1 nanometer = 0.00000000001 meter / one billionth of a meter), making it possible to form a silver film with extremely fine silver particles. As a result, the painted surface is mirrored, making it as close to a real "mirror" as possible. It is a cutting-edge special paint that enables surface treatment equivalent to plating by ordinary painting methods.

Can be applied with ordinary painting equipment.

Realization of low-temperature baking process
Forced drying at 80°C / 30 min.
◯ Forced drying at 80°C for 30 minutes is required when applying silver primer.
◯ The entire process of primer/silver/top clear can be done at room temperature.

Applicable area: when using a spray gun
◯ Assuming 100% silver (0% dilution) is applied → 15g of silver can be applied to approximately 1 square meter.
◯ Assuming 30% silver (dilution ratio 200%) is applied → 40g of silver can be applied for approximately 1 square meter.

Substrate to be constructed

BL Silver Coat RT Installation Method

BL Silvercoat RT achieves a silver chrome-like final surface treatment through a three-step coating process of dedicated primer, silver primer, and dedicated top clear. The author has been working with this special paint for about 5 years and has been searching for a method to apply BL Silvercoat RT in general, and has finally established a method of application by hand using a spray gun. Below is a complete description of the application method and points to be noted during the process.

After the primer has dried and before applying the primer to the silver main compound, be sure to perform the following operations.

Treatment of primer surface - 1 : Clean the primer surface well with a white cloth (optional) moistened with water and a paint film cleaner or car shampoo (neutral type).
Treatment of primer-applied surface-2 : After that, wash the primer surface well with water using white cloth.
Treatment of primer-applied surface - 3 : Remove water completely from the primer surface by air blow.

If there is any residue of mist, foreign matter, or debris left in the environment or adhered during the drying process, all of them will interfere with the silver fixation and coloration when the silver primer is applied, resulting in blotches, stains, or fogging on the silver-applied surface. After the primer is completely cured, be sure to carefully clean the primer surface with a paint film cleaner or neutral type car shampoo. Also, to prevent scratches during the primer cleaning process, be sure to use a white cloth (sold separately from Crystal Parts Japan) for the cleaning wipe. Surface treatment after the primer is completely dry is the most important process for BL Silvercoat RT application in general, so please be sure to perform it.

Car shampoo: Car shampoo can be used to clean the primer surface.
◯ Be sure to select a neutral type car shampoo (alkaline type/hydrophilic type is not recommended).

Primer surface cleaning method

Soak a white cloth (sold separately) with primer cleaner and carefully clean the primer surface.
Then wash with water using another white cloth to clean off the primer cleaning agent.
After air blowing is performed to completely remove moisture from the primer surface, we move on to the application of the silver main compound.

Forced Drying

After each step of the application process, please perform forced drying (using a dryer) as described below.
It is important to completely remove all thinner and solvent residues from the surface by forced drying.

Forced Drying Condition : Primer and Top Clear
◯ After setting at room temperature for about 10 minutes after application, forced dry at 60-80℃ (material temperature) for about 40-60 minutes.
◯ In case of drying at room temperature: 5 days in summer / 7 days in winter.

Forced Drying Conditions : Silver Main Compound
◯ After setting at room temperature for about 1 minute after application, force dry at 80℃ (material temperature) or higher for about 30 to 40 minutes.
◯ In case of drying at room temperature: 5 days in summer / 7 days in winter.

Drying is important!
In each step of BL Silvercoat RT, it is very important to completely remove the solvent and thinner components from each coating by allowing them to dry. If any solvent or thinner remains in the primer/silver coating, it may affect the coloring of the silver and discolor the silver (blue/yellow) when the top clear is applied.

Primer construction method

[ Primer dilution ratio ] Main : Hardener = 6 : 1 / Dedicated thinner 40-60% of main

Pattern: Fully open /Discharge volume: 1 revolution open /Air pressure: 0.1MPa
Do not spray or apply a basecoat. Do not spray or apply a basecoat at all.
Apply the coating so that it becomes a solid film from the initial application.
Apply the primer several times, being careful to avoid dripping.
After about 10 minutes at room temperature, forced drying at 80°C / 30 min.
After returning to room temperature, the applied surface should have a glossy mirror-like finish that reflects the surrounding conditions.
Beware of adherence of trash materials. Do not use the following
Recommended film thickness : 10 to 20 μm
Time required for setting : 5 to 10 minutes / Forced drying should be applied after this time.
For final forced drying : 60°C to 80°C / 30 to 40 min..
In case of drying at room temperature : about 5 days in summer / about 7 days in winter.
When polishing the primer surface after it is completely dry, be sure to use a water-based compound.

Silver Main : Construction Method

[Silver Main Dilution Ratio ] Silver Main : Dedicated Thinner = 1 : 5
Silver Base : Spray Gun Setting
◯ Pattern : Fully open
Discharge rate : 5 degrees back from 1/2 turn (set at about 25 minutes on a clock)
Air pressure: 0.16 to 0.18 MPa
◯ Gun distance: 15 cm

Spray gun is coated with a layer of silver main coating on the above setting.
Discarded spraying / basecoating is strictly prohibited. Do not spray or apply a basecoat at any time.
The silver main compound was applied wet-on-wet.
Silver main coating is done in several times : silver main coating / forced drying at 80°C for 10 minutes : this is repeated about 3 times.
Recommended film thickness : 0.2μm
Time required for setting : 1 to 2 minutes / When forced drying is used, it must be applied after this time has elapsed.
Forced drying : 80°C / 30 to 40 min. Forced drying at 80°C or higher is also possible.
In case of drying at room temperature : about 5 days in summer / about 7 days in winter.

Top Clear Construction Method

[ Top clear dilution ratio ] Base : Hardener = 8 : 1 / 40-60% of special thinner base

Pattern: Fully open / Discharge rate: 1 revolution open / Air pressure: 0.1MPa
Discarded spraying / basecoating is strictly prohibited. Do not spray or apply a basecoat at any time.
Apply the coating so that it becomes a solid film from the initial application.
After the coating is completed, allow it to dry at room temperature for about 10 minutes, and then force-dry at 80°C for about 30 minutes.
Final coat after returning to room temperature: Apply the final coat to give the surface a glossy finish.
Be careful with thicker coats : The thicker the top clear, the more the metallic luster tends to recede.
Top clear can be polished in the same way as regular urethane coating.
